Broadpoint provides offshore aviation comms to FAA
Communications, Mar  19  2010 (Digital Energy Journal)

- Broadpoint has partnered with SandRidge Energy to provide critical offshore communications to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The FAA used Broadpoint to communicate with offshore planes and helicopters over Broadpoint’s 100,000 square-mile service area, while upgrading and moving its equipment mounted on SandRidge Energy’s offshore platforms.

Broadpoint was the only offshore communications provider that allowed the FAA to move operations from one SandRidge platform to another without interruption – a critical factor in its decision to partner with Broadpoint.

SandRidge Energy, a natural gas and crude oil company headquartered in Oklahoma City, owns and operates several offshore platforms in the Gulf of Mexico that house vital communications equipment for the Federal Aviation Administration.

In 2009, the Federal Aviation Administration began upgrading its aviation communications equipment used for commercial, military and defense purposes to provide enhanced connectivity between offshore flights and land-based control towers.

Broadpoint has already provided communications services to the FAA at two other locations for a number of years, offering access to its 100,000 square mile GSM/GPRS/Edge wireless network in the Gulf of Mexico.
