Blueback Reservoir CSEM plug in for Petrel

Friday, December 9, 2011

Blueback Reservoir of Stavanger has launched a new version of its controlled source electromagnetics (CSEM) plug-in for Petrel.

It is called Bridge Electromagnetics 5.0.

The plug-in can be used to integrate electromagnetic data with seismic and other subsurface data.

It has 1 dimensional, 2.5 dimensional and 3D electromagnetics forward modelling tools.

This means that a deeper understanding of the resistivity and electromagnetic response can be gained.

In version 5.0, you can use EM attribute data, EM forward modelling and EM inversion results analysis.

'With Bridge EM 5.0 the user has got the power to unlock and understand CSEM data in greater detail than what has been previously possible, foremost due to the Petrel workflow capabilities and the reservoir estimation tool," says Dr. Erik Mårten Blixt, Product Manager for Bridge Electromagnetics.

Blueback Reservoir has launched its Blueback Toolbox v11 suite of plug-ins to Schlumberger's "Petrel" subsurface software.

It includes modules for geology, geophysics, project management, reservoir engineering and seismic reservoir characterisation, with functionality not available in standard Petrel.

The seismic reservoir characterisation toolbox can be used to estimate net pay for thin bedded reservoirs. It can be used to classify seismic data with AVO analysis.

The Seismic net pay workflow involves a series of steps from analyzing the AI-GI gradient, through coloured inversion and the creation of seismic net pay maps.

"The continued success of this Petrel plug-in product is a great inspiration to us, and we will in 2012 add more development resources to help Schlumberger clients maximize their Petrel investments," says Paul Hovdenak, Software Portfolio Manager at Blueback Reservoir.
