Empirica - faster flame ionisation detection technology

Friday, May 4, 2012

Houston based surface logging company Empirica, part of Reservoir Group, has a Dual Flame Ionised Detection (Dual FID) technology, which can measure hydrocarbon concentration in a well.

The device has a chromatograph which can give results in 36 seconds, compared to the industry average of 45-65 seconds, the company says.

The high speed means a higher rate of penetration of the tool through the well.

It can do tasks such as differentiate laminated sands and low resistivity pay.

It has launched Live Logging, a system for sharing well data over the cloud. This means that data can be shared with staff around the world faster.

Geologists can use it to interact with personnel at the wellsite and get access to static data, and see notes, pictures and interpretations made by the mudlogging engineer.

'These two technologies have been developed by our large research and development team, which is what differentiates us from our competitors' said Etienne Roux, Empirica's managing director.
