Portal to share efficiency successes and challenges across UK goes live

Friday, December 18, 2015

Following last week's signing of the Industry Behaviours Charter, the collective commitment to work effectively, efficiently and co-operatively, Oil & Gas UK's Efficiency Task Force (ETF) launched the Rapid Efficiency Exchange (REE), another tool in the suite of mechanisms to help improve the industry's performance.

The REE is an online portal which highlights individual companies' successful efforts to improve efficiency and shares common challenges. This initial version is hosted on the Oil & Gas UK website and is publically available. The new system comprises 'efficiency lessons', a simple dashboard of cost and safety indicators across the industry, a view of progress against ETF objectives and a space to share challenges in improving efficiency.

It is a sector first and Oil & Gas UK is inviting the industry to not only promote what it is doing well - but share those problems that the sector can tackle together.

The ETF comprises a group of experts tasked with driving forward pan-industry initiatives to help improve the international competitiveness of the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) and support Government policy to maximise economic recovery from the basin.

Stephen Marcos Jones, Oil & Gas UK's business development director, commented: 'Concerted action by companies to address the business difficulties resulting from high costs and low efficiency is well underway. We hope the REE will prove useful in sharing the successes so that they can be implemented more widely and in communicating challenges for solving through co-operative working.'

The ETF is taking a three-pronged approach under the themes: business process, standardisation and co-operation, culture and behaviours - focusing on two or three projects in each.

Stephen Marcos Jones concluded: 'Long term change will only come about through real co-operation between operators, major contractors and SMEs , embedding new ways of working and creating new business models. Under the co-operation, culture and behaviours theme - and through the Charter and new Rapid Efficiency Exchange - the ETF aims to support that shift.'
