Senergy / Apache put geosteering software on the market

Friday, October 12, 2012

Oil operator Apache has agreed to make its geosteering software commercially available, through oil services company Senergy.

The software can help improve evaluation and productivity of unconventional resource developments.

Senergy will provide the software as part of its Interactive Petrophysics (IPTM) and Oilfield Data Manager (ODMTM) software suites.

The Apache software includes "PetroSleek", a tool for geosteering, together with modules to do calculations for evaluation of subsurface formation data.

There is also a complete unconventional resources workflow, a fluid properties tool and a salinity calculation tool.

'With the large number of high angle and horizontal wells now being drilled globally it has become essential to be able to position a well correctly in a target subsurface formation to maximize the productivity and therefore the value of the well," says John Fraser, Senergy's Vice President of Software.

"PetroSleek enables geologists and drillers to visualize the well position in real time so they can make the necessary adjustments to steer the well to the correct target."

"This agreement enables us to bring new technology, which other customers have been requesting also, to the market more quickly than we could otherwise have done.'
