Better Ways to Manage Seismic Data

Better ways to make seismic data easier to load, QC, analyse, retrieve, and comply with regulation

Thursday, November 27, 2014, Aberdeen, Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Aberdeen Treetops

Our forum on Nov 27, "Better Ways to Manage Seismic Data", showed new methods and share ideas for making seismic data easier to manage and gain value from - including data loading, QC, analysis, retrieval, compliance, long term archiving and disposal.

Our opening speaker was Jane Hodson - Head of Technical Services DataCo (formerly Lead Subsurface Technologist with Centrica Energy), on why seismic data is critical to the business - followed by a talk from Schlumberger Information Solutions on integrated seismic data management across the enterprise.

Richard Ellitt, global information services champion with Schlumberger, on integrated management of seismic data across the enterprise.

Gareth Whiddon, service operations manager with Interica talked about his company's real life experiences managing seismic data and what can be learned from them.

David Holmes, chief industry executive, with EMC's global oil and gas program, explained how to supercharge you seismic data with 'scale-out' petrotechnical computing.

Henri Blondelle, VP of global business development with CGG Data Management Services, explained how you can reduce costs and get more value from your data by keeping seismic data in the cloud.

Supercharging Seismic using Scale-Out Petrotechnical Computing

Talk Description.
Many companies now have seismic libraries with a book value running into billions of dollars. But budgets for managing these libraries are a tiny fraction of the cost of generating this data. Organisations often use a diverse range of fragmented and non-integrated systems to manage all of the different artifacts generated within the seismic data lifecycle. But business users are demanding dramatic reductions in the time to complete traditional data management and processing workflows. At the same time, the volume and variety of seismic data types continues to explode. In this presentation we will look at some of the new holistic techniques that are available to transform the management and processing of seismic data. In particular we will examine the role of scale-out technology and big data analytical technologies in reducing cost, improving user’s seismic experience and ensuring that appropriate levels of governance and protection are applied.

Seismic in the cloud to reduce cost and offer more services

Talk Description.
- Two birds with the one stone

For good and bad reasons, the O&G industry has resisted to the Cloud. But the research for cost optimization has break the wall and allows new perspective for seismic storage management.
Henri Blondelle is a geologist by education. He started is professional career in the 80’s at the early days of the workstation development with BP then with CGG-Petrosystems. In the 2000’s he developed a data management services branch within a French O&G service company named Ipedex. In 2012, he moved back to CGG in order to participate to the integration of the Data Management Services department coming from Fugro Geosciences into CGG. He is acting now as the Business Development Manager of this activity.
