DNV GL tackles corrosion and integrity of ageingwells with new JIP
The global oil and gas industry is now facing the reality that many of its on and offshore wells are being used beyond the original lifespan. This presents significant uncertainty around the integrity, safety and productivity of the remaining service life. DNV GL has established a Joint Industry Project (JIP) to develop guidelines for a decision support framework for corrosion assessment and integrity management of ageing wells.

DNV GL launches project to combat external onshore- pipeline corrosion
Microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) is a serious threat to the integrity of onshore transmission pipelines and can lead to unexpected failures. Despite advances in understanding, there is limited knowledge to accurately predict its location and the rate of corrosion. For this reason, DNV GL is calling for partners to collaborate in a Joint Industry Project (JIP) to develop a Recommended Practice for the detection and mitigation of MIC.

Statoil and DNV GL to drive standardisation of subsea factory interfaces
Subsea processing systems are tailor-made to meet field-specific requirements and components. Now Statoil is taking the initiative to standardise the interfaces for subsea processing plants on the seabed, also known as Subsea Factory. DNV GL is being asked as an independent party to initiate a Joint Industry Project (JIP) that will develop the standard. The JIP is open to operators to collaborate in ensuring major benefits throughout the subsea supply chain.

DNV GL-LED collaboration to enhance BOP maintenance
The maintenance of blowout preventers (BOPs) has significant financial, logistical and safety implications for drilling operators and rig owners. DNV GL has now established a Joint Industry Project (JIP) to develop a risk-based maintenance methodology with the aim to deliver more effective and cost-efficient BOP maintenance. Several BOP manufacturers, operators, rig owners and shelf state regulators have already joined the JIP, and others may still come on board.

DNV GL launches interactive arctic risk map to communicate region's complex risk
ONS, Stavanger: The world's need for energy is driving interest in further industrial activity in the Arctic, yet the region's conditions are highly variable depending on the type of activity, location and time of year. This creates a complex risk picture. DNV GL, the leading technical advisor to the oil & gas industry, has therefore developed an interactive Arctic Risk Map to present the risks associated with offshore and maritime activities in the Arctic. The map aims to provide stakeholders with a comprehensive tool for decision-making and transparent communications.

Broad collaboration to set an industry standard for subsea documentation
The documentation needed within the international subsea industry to ensure regulatory and operational compliance has grown considerably. Preparing and maintaining the relevant documentation is time consuming, complex and costly to deliver. Further, requirements differ significantly between the major operators. To address this issue, DNV GL has launched a Joint Industry Project (JIP) to standardise subsea documentation. This long-awaited initiative has been welcomed by the industry, with broad participation from operators, EPC(I) contractors and suppliers representing all parts of the supply chain.

DNV GL suggest new EOR concept: wind powered water injection
DNV GL is proposing a new concept that combines mature water injection technology with the newest developments in offshore wind power to achieve more cost effective Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR). Now, industries are invited to join DNV GL in developing this concept further in a joint industry project. Initial studies show it will reduce the cost of water injection, avoid costly topside modifications and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
