Measuring the success of subsurface data projects - best and worst practices with well log data management - using well data in subsurface interpretation - supporting the way younger geoscientists want to work

Our third subsurface data conference in Aberdeen on March 12th explores ways to make it easier to work with subsurface data - and ways data managers can make subsurface data easier to work with.

We hope this event will be a useful way to get up to speed with the latest in practise and technology to help do more with subsurface data – limited places, please register now to secure yours!

You can find out:

• Why many subsurface / data management projects struggle to deliver what the business wanted, although they pass stage gates and meat project management goals

• What is the best, and the worst, practise with managing well logs, in the eyes of the British Geological Survey, which sees almost all UK onshore well data and much UK offshore data

• Better ways to use well data in subsurface interpretation - making better use of well data for reservoir description has been described by SPE's director of reservoir description and dynamics as something which should be a priority for the industry

• How to develop subsurface data and software frameworks which support the way younger geoscientists want to work - if younger geoscientists prefer to work more collaboratively, or expect information to be available immediately

Event history - we previously ran this event in March 2013 - see the agenda - see the attendee list

Measuring the success of subsurface projects - how IT engage (or not) with the business

Watch Video     View PDF
Talk Description.
Despite many companies applying rigorous project management frameworks to subsurface data/information management projects many repeatedly struggle to deliver what the business wanted.

Project management goals are met, stage gates passed and the required artifacts delivered, yet often 'the final product' is not what was envisioned or the metrics used to measure success were poorly designed and don't show an expected level of improvement.

This talk focusses on defining an approach to subsurface data management projects with the correct business engagement and meaningful and achievable metrics to measure success.
Stephen is a consultant with the IBM Upstream, Drilling, Completions and Production Centre of Competence.
Stephen has 20 years experience working in and for the subsurface - 10 years as a geo-scientist working with international operators, and 10 years in data management.
