One way to explain 'analytics' is where the data suggests questions to the expert, rather than the expert asking questions of the data. For example, instead of an expert asking the data whether the vibration signature of a pump shows cause for concern, the analytics could suggest to the expert that the temperature patterns on a certain pump or a certain pipeline might justify further attention.

As data sizes get larger and more complex, the number of possible questions becomes bigger than the manpower available to ask them - so it makes more sense to have a computer system to suggest which question to ask.

Our asset integrity analytics conference on September 24th looks at how analytics can help asset integrity engineers work out the best questions to ask, and ultimately make asset integrity management easier.

We have speakers from Teradata, Cyberhawk, Agito and CGI, speaking about how to use analytics tools to work on structured data and unstructured data together; how to gather and manage asset integrity data using drones (UAVs); how to get a better understanding of the integrity of subsea control systems; and how to use the ISO 55000 standard to develop a system for asset integrity management.

Analytics to the rescue, how to blend asset hierarchies with reports

Talk Description.
To understand and analyze integrity it is usually required to combine structured data (asset hierarchies, SAP data) with unstructured data (inspection reports, maintenance reports, design documents).

This ‘combination’ is generally conducted inside people’s head. This talk will present a new range analytics which can automatically blend SAP data (structured) with reports (inspection, maintenance, etc) to deliver a completely new range of insights and trends. The presentation will include examples and a live demo.
Pierre is a senior consultant at Teradata Corporation. In this role, Pierre helps determine the right oil and gas strategies and positioning for Teradata in the areas of analytics and big data. Pierre has over fifteen years of experience in data warehousing, analytics and data management. Prior to his current role, Pierre was the Upstream Reference Architect at Shell for Management Information (MI) and Analytics. During his eight years at Shell Pierre initiated, designed and delivered data-driven solutions that unleashed breakthrough Business performance.

Arria Natural Language Generation
Articulate Asset: What if your asset could talk to you?

Talk Description.
When one engineer wants to inform another engineer about a problem, he/she will use English (or Arabic, Russian, etc) as well as numbers and graphs.

The engineer will probably use graphs to present the underlying data, and English to present background information (context, history, situational awareness) and an explanation of his/her diagnosis and recommendation.

This talk will briefly describe how Arria¹s technology automatically generates English narratives which present background information and diagnoses, recommendations, and explanations, thus allowing assets to ³talk² to engineers, operators, and managers
Arria NLG is a company specialising in Natural Language Generation (NLG) for mission critical industries, including oil and gas, healthcare and meterology. It has offices in London, Aberdeen, New York and Auckland.

The complexity and variety of offshore data sources mean that analysis and reporting process can take several hours. The ARRIA NLG Engine replicates the expertise of the engineer, providing an analysis and recommendation in less than a minute.
