Arnlea - new range of explosion certified RFID tags

Wednesday, August 29, 2012

Arnela Systems of Inverurie, Scotland, has launched a new range of ATEX certified (explosion proof, or "Appareils destinés à être utilisés en ATmosphères EXplosives") RFID (radio frequency identification) tags for the oil and gas industry.

They are designed to be used on FPSOs, drilling rigs and offshore platforms.

They are designed so they can be attached quickly to a wide range of different equipment. "The product is expected to survive for the life of the equipment it is attached to," Arnlea says.

The tags can be scanned with a reader, similar to barcode scanning in a supermarket.

'The oil and gas industry has been looking for simple, cost-effective solutions to easily identify, monitor, and track the wide range of equipment and materials in use in the industry today', says Kevin Boyd, managing director of Arnlea.

The tags have been embedded in drill pipe, used on ROVs and on containers.
