BG and Talisman sign up to Aberdeen emergency response centre

Thursday, September 6, 2012

BG's North Sea operations and Talisman's West Africa operations have signed up to receive 24 hour emergency report from a new incident management centre in Aberdeen, operated by Altor Risk Group.

The centre cost £250,000.

It will provide company staff with practical training exercises and simulations, and consultancy. There will be a pool of specialist responders who can assist with any problems which occur at any time of day or night.

The centre has an emergency response control room, with communications and management technology, and associated support services.

Information management and tracking tools enable responders to make decisions based on real time information, and log every step of an incident.

The centre manager is Andrew Couper, a former British Army staff officer who has more than 25 years' experience in emergency planning and managing emergency response control rooms.

'Major events in the North Sea and Gulf of Mexico have underlined the importance of planning for and testing various scenarios to ensure that an organisation is well equipped to deal with any potential situation," Mr Couper said.

"The availability and participation of professionals who have experience of responding to and handling real emergencies, and are familiar with how to work with agencies and the wide ranging communications needed when dealing with a major incident, is crucial in any crisis.'

Altor Risk Group has offices in Aberdeen, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Perth, Australia. Clients include Apache, BP, Shell, Perenco, Premier Oil and Maersk Oil, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, Pertamina (Indonesia) and CNOOC.
