Friday, July 13, 2012

The British Science Festival, to be held in Aberdeen in September, has announced that BP and Shell will be sponsors.

The theme of the festival is "energising minds".

It will cover industry innovations and energy alternatives, including economic power transmission, biofuels, ethics and sustainability.

The festival has been running since 1963 around the UK.

Ellen Williams, Chief Scientist at BP, will speak about the challenges and opportunities in using our natural resources.

Shell will present on the future role of natural gas.

'Shell are very excited that the British Science Festival is coming to Aberdeen and proud to have been able to play a part in bringing it here," says Glen Cayley, Vice President - Technical for Shell.

"We are sure that it will give a huge boost to science, technology, engineering and maths - subjects that are vital, not just to our industry, but to the whole country. Aberdeen is a centre of science excellence, so it is wonderful that the Festival will be here.'

Other sessions include "new platform transforms North Sea's future," "Energising the public - how energy should be supplied in future", "simulation training in oil and gas industry," "can solar energy save the world," "Scotland's energy future - the role of chemistry", "energy sustainability beyond climate change", "indestructible energy", and "renewable energy - past present and future in North East Scotland".
