ETP v1.2 Release Candidate available for comment

Tuesday, February 11, 2020

Energistics Consortium Inc. announced the availability of the ETP v1.2 Release Candidate for public review.

Energistics Transfer Protocol (ETP) is a single two-way Websocket-based connection solution with specific features to address oil & gas upstream data challenges. It reduces data latency from a 10-15 second baseline typical of SOAP protocols to about 1 second, while its use of binary encoding requires 10x less bandwidth compared to a purely XML format. The current v1.1 was released in 2016, and has been deployed in a number of experimental and operational situations.

ETP v1.2 represents an expansion of capabilities relative to v1.1, making changes based on implementation experience as well as a number of requested enhancements to support new workflows.

The three most significant new features are:

· Improved design of data streaming by moving complex streaming into two additional protocols for producer-initiated and consumer-initiated streaming to support additional data acquisition workflows. One such workflow would be auto startup at the rigsite.
· Enhanced data discovery design with a companion protocol for dataspaces.
· Addition of several query protocols and a transaction protocol to support large complex operations that are typically associated with earth/reservoir modeling workflows.

The ETP v1.2 schemas along with ETP v1.2 Spec pdf and the xmi file are packaged into a zip file. The goal is for industry stakeholders to review all the materials and also test those aspects of the standard that are relevant to their organization.

Comments and issues should be submitted by March 31, 2020.
