GE opens DP vessel simulator in Egypt

Friday, September 14, 2012

GE Energy Management and the Arab Academy of Science, Technology & Marine Transport, have jointly opened a dynamic positioning vessel control simulator in Abu Qir, near Alexandria, Northern Egypt.

It will be used to train workers in the Egyptian and Arabian offshore industry.

It is part of a larger dynamic positioning training school.

The simulator has GE's dynamic positioning technology in it.

Dynamic positioning is where a computer system attached to a vessel's propulsion, thrusters and rudders, is used to keep the vessel absolutely stationary, or make small exact movements. It is necessary if the vessel is being used for drilling or pipe laying.

GE will operate the simulator for 5 years.
