ICoTA invites schoolchildren to present "smart and sustainable idea"

Friday, October 5, 2012

The Intervention & Coiled Tubing Association (ICoTA) European Chapter, together with the Society of Petroleum Engineers Aberdeen, have set a challenge to local schoolchildren to "devise a smart and sustainable idea for the oil and gas sector."

The challenge will be issued to pupils at 4 local academies, Cults, Kemnay, Dyce and Westhill.

The competition is called "The Energy Apprentice".

Entries will be presented to a panel of industry representatives, in advance of the 18th SPE ICoTA European Well Intervention Conference, entitled 'Delivering more for less', at the AECC in Aberdeen on November 14 and 15.

'Contrary to some opinions, the future of the oil industry is secure, however it is our responsibility to ensure that it remains that way and that is what we are aiming to do with The Energy Apprentice," says ICoTA Chairman Callum Munro.

'By planning for the future and giving a new generation the chance to learn and think about the industry in a fun and constructive environment we hope to show these young people what an exciting and fulfilling sector energy can be to work in, as well as getting their insights into what it may look like in the years ahead.'
