IDS signs contract with Cairn for Greenland exploration

Friday, August 27, 2010

IDS has signed a contract to provide web-based reporting and analysis services for Cairn Energy PLC’s Greenland exploration.

IDS will provide Cairn with customised applications from its DataNet2 suite of reporting and analysis tools.

The remote nature of this latest exploration makes it especially important for constant and detailed communication to take place between operators in Greenland and staff based in Cairn’s head office in Edinburgh. Being web-based, DataNet2 allows users aroudn the world to be given access rights to share, manage and analyse the same data, without the confusion of multiple copies.

Cairn will be using two of the applications from DataNet2:

·        DrillNet (drilling reporting software)
·        StockNet (supply chain management)

Logistics will play an important role in this operation because of the location of operations. StockNet provides a complete logistical planning tool for operators to track stock once it has left the warehouse, through shipping, to usage on the rig site and return. StockNet incorporates all the relevant logistics information, making it easy to share and transfer, as well as be viewed offshore, in advance. The StockNet tool will allow Cairn to track items using purchase order/invoice numbers and provide essential operational information to invoicing teams.

DrillNet will enable Cairn’s operators to instantly recover and analyse data and documents, generate a fully customised DDR, dozens of associated summary reports and a Final Well Report ready to be distributed directly from the system.
