INOVA Geophysical launches cabled land seismic system

Houston land geophysical equipment company INOVA Geophysical has launched a new cabled land seismic recording system with supports over 100,000 channels, called G3i.

It can be used to high density 3D and time-lapse 4D data.

The system has an "aircraft grade" aluminium enclosure and high strength polycarbonate exterior.

The power for the units is both supplied by standard 12 volt batteries and delivered through the cables.

Each channel needs only 235mW of power.

Each recording module, or "remote acquisition module", can take up to 4 analogue channels, and weighs 1.2kg.

Having more channels per module means that the overall amount of field equipment to manage is reduced.

The unit was field tested in November 2011 and later in February 2012 in an oilfield in Western China by BGP, the largest land geophysical contractor in the world.

"The technology advancements we've made to this system have been widely driven by our customer needs in the field," says Glenn Hauer, Senior Vice President of Product Management at INOVA.

"For High Productivity Vibroseis operations, we knew our customers needed a high capacity system using power-down-the-line technology to help reduce battery dependency, and with less equipment to transport, crews can work more efficiently during high channel count acquisition.

"We a system that would provide all of this, plus the ability to perform in-field maintenance to the ground electronics quickly."
