Oil gas & construction industries join forces to explore powers of visualisation

Friday, November 2, 2018

Two of the UK's major industrial sectors will join forces this month to explore how the latest developments in visualisation technology can help to drive greater efficiencies and improved performance in the oil and gas and construction industries.

Hosted by the Oil & Gas Innovation Centre (OGIC) and the Construction Scotland Innovation Centre (CSIC) in association with Robert Gordon University (RGU), the Visualising our World event will take place in Aberdeen on Thursday, 8 November. It will examine the current and future applications of visualisation technology across both industries.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from Andy Till IMDC and certification lead of BP, and Stephen Slessor operations director of Morrison Construction, who will explore the topic from an oil and gas and construction perspective looking at the current technologies available, and what they would like to see in the future. There will also be presentations from representatives from OGIC, CSIC, RGU, Oceaneering, Return to Scene, CGI UK and Multivista.

There will also be a number of interactive stands, demonstrating the latest in visualisation technology from companies across the country, including an augmented reality app and iHawk software.

Ian Phillips, chief executive officer at OGIC, said: 'Often when new technology is developed it becomes apparent that it presents opportunities and benefits for multiple industries, and this collaboration between the oil and gas and construction innovation centres is a prime example of this.

'In terms of oil and gas, there is a wide scope for the benefits visualisation technology can bring to the industry including reducing cost and time taken on projects. This event provides a unique opportunity to explore the latest technological advances and look to the future of visualisation.'

Ben Westland, head of strategic and commercial operations at CSIC, said: 'Often when a new technology is first developed, it takes a while for companies to realise the range of opportunities and benefits that it offers. In terms of construction, visualisation technology can help reduce costs and time taken on projects. This event provides a unique opportunity to explore the latest technological advances, look to the future of visualisation and find out what it could mean for construction businesses.'

The Visualising our World; How visualisation technologies can advance the oil & gas and construction industries event will take place on Thursday, 8 November from 12 - 5:30pm at Aker Solutions, International Avenue, Dyce. Entry to the event is free, for more information or to register for the event visit http://www.ogic.co.uk/whatson/visualising-our-world-event/.
