Rigless electrical submersible pump string at 11,500 feet

Thursday, November 3, 2011

Artificial Lift Company of Houston reports the successful installation of the longest rigless electrical submersible pump string the company has ever installed, for oil major ENI on its Nikaitchuq field in Alaska.

The completion was landed at 11,500 feet of measured depth and 3,500 feet of total vertical depth. The pump is installed through the production tubing.

Nikaitchuq is the first Arctic project for ENI.

The pump has two motors. It was installed using ALC's permanent magnet motors and wet mate electrical connectors.

This means that the pump string could be removed by slickline or coil tubing, rather than requiring a rig workover.

ALC reports that the work to install the pump started just 5 weeks after the contract was awarded.
