SLC Projects

A number of projects have been designed by Standard Leadership Council.

Units of Measure - Version 1 of this standard has been published and includes the Unit of Measure Dictionary and the Unit Symbol Grammar Specification. The standard is a harmonization of several industry Unit of Measure standards. This standard was designed for ease of implementation in software and databases. Energistics, PPDM and SEG user communities contributed to this standard. For additional information on the Unit of Measure standard, visit the Energistics website.

WITSML PPDM Mapping - For several years, industry has been asking for a standardized method of transferring data between the PPDM data model and WITSML. In 2013, a project was launched to find out how feasible this would be. Seven of the key objects in WITSML were selected and mapped into PPDM by a team from PPDM and Energistics. This pilot feasibility study is now complete and the results are being prepared for industry review and discussion. In coming months, PPDM and Energistics will work with industry to set the path for the next steps in this integration project.

Raster Well Log Calibration - An open, industry standard depth log calibration (registration) format that will improve on and replace existing proprietary standards, allowing service companies, data vendors and customers to more readily associate depth log calibration information with the correct log and move well logs and calibration information between systems. The intent is not to change any existing file formats but develop a single format that: (1) can be shared among clients and vendors, (2) is not software platform specific, and (3) is easily stored and transferred between software programs. This project is in the final documentation stage and the team is preparing for the industry review stage. Energistics and PPDM are working on this project.

Operator Advisory Panel (OAP) - The SLC has formed an OAP to serve as a strategic sounding board for standards development ideas, standards integration opportunities and open standards adoption schemes for the oil and gas industry. This group will also provide thought leadership and be a visible evangelist for the development of effective standards, promote the integration of standards across SLC members and drive the adoption of standards within their own organizations.
