Stork helps CNR manage North Sea Caisson integrity

Friday, July 6, 2012

Stork Technical Services has won a 3 year contract with Canadian Natural Resources (CNR), to help manage the integrity of CNR's 80 caissons (sealed underwater structures) in the North Sea.

The caissons are in the Ninian, Tiffany and Murchison fields.

Stork will provide a range of services around caisson integrity, including inspecting records, making risk based assessments, and putting together a caisson integrity management database, which can be used to help optimise maintenance and inspection activities.

Stork will provide inspection, integrity engineering, cathodic protection and cleaning services.

"Offshore installations can demonstrate caisson failure mechanisms both topsides and/or subsea and therefore need to be considered as a separate entity in asset integrity management programmes," Stork says.

"If a caisson detaches it can cause significant damage to subsea infrastructure, impair production capability, and replacement costs can be significant."
