VSG launches version 7 of 3D rock physics software Avizo Fire

Thursday, January 19, 2012

Visualization Sciences Group of Mérignac, France, has launched version 7 of its "Avizo Fire" 3D visualisation and analysis software for digital rock physics and core analysis.

The company says it has enhanced tools and improved workflows for analyzing, modeling and characterizing rock samples, from pore-scale to core-scale, enabling complex analysis processes to be done "in a few clicks".

There is a new software tool for absolute permeability calculation from image based data, called XLab Hydro. The tool works with a high resolution image of a rock sample. It can perform a full simulation of a permeability experiment.

It has re-organised, renamed and simplified tools, which means that it should be faster to learn how to use the software.

There are graphics process unit (GPU) computing tools which can speed up image processing tasks.

'This new version 7 represents a major step forward, both in functionality and usability, and reinforces even further the leading position of Avizo Fire as 3D software for core analysis and digital rock physics', says Pascal Doux, VSG Product Director.
